Production Operators
Job Title: Production Operator

Summary
Operate machinery and equipment necessary in the production of ethanol and co-products, including the loading of these products. Testing and monitoring of the entire process on a 12 hour shift basis.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- This position is expected to learn all areas of the plant over a short period of time. These areas consist of a) Cook area which incorporates corn grind through to fermentation, b) DD&E area which consists of distillation, dehydration (sieves) and evaporation, c) Energy center which entails the thermal oxidizer, boiler, water treatment, driers and centrifuges, d) Board Operation, which entails managing the plant process within set parameters through the utilization of the distributive control systems (DCS). All areas are responsible for collaboration with all other area personnel.
- Depending on co-product logistics, this position may also be fully or partially responsible for material handler duties.
- Inspect grain received to ensure that it meets company standards.
- Weighing in/out of all trucks to the proper location for loading/unloading within the plant compound.
- Timely loading and unloading of all ethanol, distiller’s grains and other products by railcar and truck.
- Proper completion of all records related to the products loaded for shipment from the plant site.
- Responsible for testing all required equipment and completion of all related records.
- Submit Work Requests using the CPMS software.
- Collect, test, analyze and record results of samples taken from process.
- Clean fermenters as soon as they are empty and all hoses rolled-up.
- Housekeeping as related, but not limited to the cleanliness and orderly organization of grain handling area, distiller’s grains area, hammer mill and cook area are to be cleaned by the end of your shift.
- Keep current on the status of all operating equipment in your section.
- Maintain rolling stock to include loaders, railcar mover, skid steer, fuel loader by checking fluid levels, greasing, lubricating and re-fueling.
- Inspect loaders, Railcar mover, etc. for defects, cracks, breaks, tires, etc. according to the designated schedule issued by maintenance and document the inspection results.
- Grease and check oil levels in grain receiving area at the designated schedule issued by maintenance.
- Maintain scale house, ethanol load-out and truck buildings
- Pump out scale pit as needed.
- Properly document any accidents and/or injuries.

Supervise the testing of water, wastewater, ethanol and co-products as required by company standards and state and federal mandates. Provide guidance on a day-to-day basis for the Lab relative to the variations in the process. Identify tests to be performed to assure maximum production and the equipment required to complete testing. In addition, this position is responsible to verify all data collected within the department and deliver reports to Plant Manager as needed. It is a requirement of the position to follow all company safety rules and regulations.

- HPLC analysis on fermenters #1 through #6, Yeast propagators, beer well, thin stillage tank, beer column bottoms, side stripper bottoms, and distillates as needed.
- Run grain sieve analysis.
- Determine DE and TS (% solids) of liq and slurry tank.
- Determine TSS of bottoms of all centrifuges operating.
- Determine total sugar (brix) and pH of samples
- Determine rail car proofs, pHe, Karl Fischer and acidity.
- Properly document all testing results in computer software.
- Monitor special contamination studies (incubation).
- Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on all lab equipment.
- Perform methanator-monitor testing and adjust chemical usage as needed.
- Perform all required boiler, RO, cooling tower and outfall water tests. Work with water treatment company to continually learn water treatment.
- Perform weekly samples of distiller’s grains, centrifuge (wetcake) and grains for fermentable carbohydrate content and modify distiller’s grains as needed.
- Send weekly feed samples to outside labs for assurance testing.
- Send quarterly ethanol samples to outside lab for certification testing.
- Participate in and monitor bench top fermentations and any other plant trials.
- Prepare statistical spreadsheets and graphs for trend tracking.
- Ensure that all samples, containers and equipment are properly labeled, disposed of and handled in a safe manner.

- Maintain current certificates of insurance for all subcontractors.
- Oversee the investigation and required reporting of all injuries of associates and contractors.
- Oversee the required environmental testing, sampling and required reporting.
- Monthly budgets for safety and environmental departments.
- Perform quarterly and monthly safety audits.
- Develop and work with local Emergency Response teams to plan for all possible disasters.
- Work with corporate headquarters to implement effective software package for continual tracking of environmental requirements.
- Participate in industry groups that pertain to EH&S. (i.e. – ASTM)
- Implement and maintain an effective injury management system.
- Ensure an effective SSP plan is in place with frequent and accurate training associated.
- Maintain proper inventory levels for all safety equipment, while ensuring all equipment functions properly and is updated as needed.
- Other duties as may be assigned to accomplish the safe and timely operations within the plant.
- Willing and able to become cross-trained on multiple duties.

Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well with others and ability to work independently.
- Previous management experience in a safety and/ or environmental department. Work experience in a related field a plus.
- Exemplify the high standards necessary to accomplish the goals of the Company.
- Computer skills.
Education and Experience
- College degree preferred
- High School diploma required
- Work experience & equivalent to 2 years experience in core essential responsibilities and duties.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
- Able to work in outside conditions and adverse weather.
Working Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
- The employee is regularly exposed to dusty conditions.
- The employee is regularly exposed to high noise environments.
- The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather in all conditions.
- The employee will regularly be exposed to chemicals used in the process.
